Bespoke one-to-one tuition from qualified teachers and subject specialists

There is no one way to learn.

Emerson Tuition gives children and young people bespoke one-to-one lessons, from Primary to GCSE, A-level and entrance exams. Founded in 2021 by Grace Agate-Bacon, a qualified teacher, it now teaches families across East Sussex and Essex.

Letters built in foam, and Steinbeck annotated in pencil. Two lessons, one approach.

our mission

What we set out to do

  1. See.See the potential in every child, and support them in reaching it through truly bespoke lessons.
  2. Restore.Restore the innate love of learning that every child is born with.
  3. Prove.Prove that good grades don’t have to compromise wellbeing.

the founder

A teacher who loved learning, but not always school

Grace graduated from King’s College London and began teaching in 2007. As a child she loved learning but didn’t always love school, with all its pressures and constraints. As a classroom teacher she was always looking for ways to make learning engaging and enjoyable.

A late diagnosis of ADHD gave her an even deeper appreciation of neurodiversity and the many ways children think, learn and experience education. One-to-one teaching gives her the freedom to really know a student and shape every lesson around them.

a useful mistake

Mistakes are useful

Rather than something to fear, mistakes tell us what to teach next. We want students to feel comfortable asking questions, getting things wrong and being themselves, while giving them the structure, challenge and explicit teaching they need to make real progress.

The six things we believe

A child's finger drawing a letter in a tray of coloured salt
Letters drawn in a salt tray.
A row of glasses holding red cabbage indicator, each turned a different colour by household liquids
Red cabbage indicator, tested on things from the kitchen.
Number cards with wooden pegs and coloured counters for an addition activity
